Some days you feel like you get everything done and then some, and then somehow as time goes on, important stuff begins dropping off your radar
This cycle is on repeat continually. Sudden bursts of motivation, creativity, or drive - often after you hit a low point - that slowly tapers out. And then, the pattern repeats.
You may wonder:
-
Am I capable of more?
-
Is this just how I am?
-
Do I really care about this if I can't do it consistently?
This pattern is one of the most common reasons adults seek support for ADHD.
ADHD is not a lack of intelligence or effort.
... ADHD is a difference in how your brain regulates attention, motivation, and executive functioning.
Willpower is supposed to be a tool, not the thing that gets you to do everything. It’s a finite resource.

How Therapy Helps With ADHD and Neurodivergence
Therapy helps you understand how ADHD affects your brain and develop systems that work with you rather than against you.
In my work as a therapist in Baton Rouge and online across Louisiana with telehealth clients, I focus on practical, structured approaches that help you follow through more consistently without relying on willpower alone.
You'll learn to:
-
Improve follow-through and task completion
-
Reduce procrastination
-
Build sustainable routines
-
Improve focus and productivity
-
Reduce overwhelm and mental fatigue
-
Increase consistency in your daily life
Treatment may include:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for ADHD
-
Executive functioning skill development
-
Insight-oriented therapy to address internal barriers
This may be a good fit if you:
-
Have been diagnosed with ADHD
-
Suspect you may have ADHD
-
Struggle with motivation or follow-through
-
Feel capable but inconsistent
-
Want practical tools and are okay trying something new
You can learn to work with your brain instead of against it.

Other Challenges Often Go Hand-in-Hand with ADHD
ADHD often overlaps with other problems. Many people with ADHD also struggle with trauma, co-occurring autism, emotional reactivity, or relationship difficulties. If anger, explosiveness, or relationship struggles are part of what you’re dealing with, you may also benefit from support focused on men’s mental health or couples therapy.
Common Questions About ADHD Therapy
How does therapy for ADHD differ from traditional therapy?
ADHD therapy focuses on improving follow-through, emotional regulation, time management, and reducing the frustration that comes from inconsistency. One of the main ways this is accomplished is by essentially training your brain to actually want to do tasks that it subconsciously writes off as "too difficult" or "boring."
Do I need a diagnosis to start ADHD therapy?
Not necessarily. Many people seek therapy because they relate to ADHD patterns, even without a formal diagnosis. However, a formal diagnosis will likely be required if you hope to utilize medication.
Is ADHD therapy just about skills?
I'll be honest, a pretty significant portion of ADHD therapy is skills. That's because it's much easier to implement simple changes that work with your brain instead of against it, than it is to do the deeper emotional work that is the other half of ADHD therapy. Most people start with the skills, before moving into the more difficult emotional work.
